Why We Celebrate Conception

I wanted to share a firend of mine's post about why we celebrate conception and not just birth.  A lot of people wont make the announcement that they're pregnant until around the 12-14th week in pregnancy for fear of miscarraige.  The first and second time my husband and I got pregnant, we told everyone we knew right away.  By this time, we had been going through fertility treatments for almost 2 years.  10 weeks into my 1st pregnancy, I lost the baby.  7 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy, I lost another baby.  We received a lot of flack from some on how we should have never said anything until the 1st trimester had passed and that if we ever got pregnant again, we needed to keep it to ourselves until we were past the point of miscarraige.

Conception through birth is a miricle from God in its self.  Now that I am 24 weeks pregnant, I have learned that there really isn't any safe point in pregnancy where nothing can go wrong.  I have always been a beiliver in sharing a blessing such as pregnancy from the moment of conception.  Why wouldn't anyone not want to share what God has done for them, especially after facing such circumstances as my husband and I had for many years?  What better way in showing God making the impossible possible than sharing a story such as ours?  Well, I gave into the pressure from the ones wanting us to keep quiet.  With our 3rd pregnancy we waited until I was 10 weeks to announce it.  I tried many times to explain to those that disagreed why I felt it important to share, but could never come up with the right words.

Some friends of my husband and I, have been facing their own infertility battle for many years and have lost two precious babies.  They have now adopted two children and recently found out they are pregnant again.  With their pregnancy announcement, they posted the following below to help others understand why we celebrate conception.  They put into words what I never could.  I hope you all enjoy.

Many hesitate to tell people that they are pregnant after having experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth. They may want to wait until some point in the future when things are more certain. Maybe they don’t want to get people’s hopes up, only to have them decimated again. This is understandable, but I would commend to you another way. It may be a harder way, indeed an impossible way, but I believe it is a better and more Christ exalting way.
Why we celebrate conception and not just birth:
1.Because a child is not less a child inside the womb than outside.

2.Because the loss of a child makes you want to celebrate every moment you can with your other children.

3.Because we want to testify against the abortion not of fetuses but of little precious souls. Perhaps one of the greatest ways we can testify against abortion is to celebrate conception and to deeply mourn over a miscarriage or stillbirth.

4.Because should the child die, we should weep and mourn a stillbirth or miscarriage like what it is, the death of a life precious to us. As God’s covenant people we are meant to laugh with those who laugh and mourn with those who mourn. Such a loss should not be experienced alone.

5.Because it is a way to teach children about the reality of life and death and the God who is sovereign over them.

6.Because the next life is bigger than this one. If the child should die in the womb they still have life in front of them. They are not non-existent in the next life, nor should they be in this life.

7.Because God makes life and new life, not us. This is a way of celebrating what God does above what we do, a way of celebrating the gospel.

Our deepest praise to our merciful heavenly Father, and our sincerest thanks to all who have prayed to Him for us. Please continue to pray God’s mercy on us for a safe, healthy, and joyous pregnancy and birth.
